Album of the Month 5

Album of the Month:

Young The Giant (Self titled album)

This is a really fun, groovy indie rock group that I accidentally discovered over the summer. They played the opening set before Anberlin (though there isn't a similarity between the two of them). Their popular songs "Cough Syrup" and "My Body" are great jammers. PLEASE TO LISTEN TO THIS! (by that poorly worded sentence I mean the whole album...) I think this is a great feel good album as a whole; perfect for a sunny day drive with the windows down, feeling the warm spring wind on your Aviator shaded face.

Single of the Week:

The Shrine/ An Argument by Fleet Foxes

You can feel the passion in his voice when he hits those higher notes. Beautiful.
Watch out for the free form jazz at the end of the song; might throw you off a bit.

Quote of the Week:

"'Cause grey is not a compromise - it is the bridge between two sides.
The shores on which our stubborn land and restless seas collide.
Grey is not just middle ground, it is a truce that waits to be signed.
I would even argue that, from where we stand,
it most represents the color of God's eyes."

Album of the Month 4

Album of the Month:

VICE VERSES by Switchfoot

This album was extremely pleasing to me for a number of reasons. I count Switchfoot as my first "favorite band". I heard a bunch of their singles and then started to listen to some of their full albums. I was really impressed by the openness they had about their faith and how they creatively incorporated it into their music. Switchfoot was definitely an inspirational band for me in my earlier years of high school especially because they were a Christian band who made it to mainstream radio. As the years have gone by however, we've seen less and less obviously Christian lyrics from them; and, although it's been really good, it hasn't been the good old Switchfoot we know and love from the days of "Dare You to Move" and "New Way to Be Human".
...Until now...
I would argue that this album perfectly captures the maturity of Jon's lyric writing capability, re-united with the old Switchfoot sound we all know and love. I am thoroughly impressed by this work as a whole. From the quick, witty, and striking lyrics of "Selling the News" to the deep reflection on the truth behind man's longing for something more in "Restless" this album is beautiful and I hope you give it a good listen.

Hello Everyone and Welcome to my new blog for Nick's Music Choice.
The Facebook group got so much positive feedback that I decided to get a little more professional for you all.
It's been a while since I updated the group and I think we're well overdue.

So the last couple months I have aquired quite a bit of music that I am currently chewing through. As mentioned in previous posts a good number of my favorites decided to come out with albums in the last few months.
I, as a true lover of music decided to go broke or go home. And actually ended up going more towards the broke side. My last paycheck was spent on acquiring the latest of the greatest.
Here's an example of what my hard earned cash went to:

So I just wanted to let you all know that Nick's Music Choice is back in business!
Please continue to leave comments and above all...
Enjoy!!!

NMC Album of the Month 3

GHOSTS UPON THE EARTH
So I just wanted to completely focus on this new Album that Gungor released. It really is a masterpiece. My hope is that you can all get a chance to hear it at some point. If you have the chance to pray through or with this entire album I would highly suggest it. It isn't catchy like the first album Gungor released (beautiful things), it's actually more cinematic and storytelling by nature.

This video accurately describes the album:

Also to those attending Franciscan University of Steubenville, I requested that the bookstore order copies of this album AND THEY DID! So you can grab the physical cd if you chose, it's totally worth it.

Music Quote:

"WHAAOO! For heaven's sake I see right through you!
WHAAOO! I've got secrets too.
Your a gun,
And I can be your bullet to bite down on.
Take your best shot cause you only got one...
...But I'll stitch my eyes wide open
Cause I don't want to miss the look on your face
When I drive away
You know you're sharp
But sharp just doesn't cut it anymore
I'll show you a side of me you've never seen before"

Hide awaaay!
Why do you hide away from me?
